Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Course ( MBSR)

What is Mindfulness and MBSR?
Mindfulness is all about learning to direct our attention to our experience as it unfolds, moment by moment, with open-minded curiosity, kindness and acceptance. Rather than worrying about what has happened or might happen, it trains us to explore and respond skilfully to whatever is happening right now. Mindfulness training has been shown to improve health and wellbeing. People report after taking a mindfulness course that they have found they can learn more effectively, think more clearly, perform better and feel calmer and less anxious. GPs are referring adults on 8-week courses to reduce stress & help prevent recurrent depression. It is increasingly being used in business, education and sports training to improve staff wellbeing and satisfaction and improve performance.

Who will benefit?
The MBSR Course has benefited people with a variety of conditions and concerns: Stress – Stress in modern life has permeated our lives. Stress can be related to work, school, family, relationships, financial matters, illness, aging, grief, uncertainty about the future, and changes in life. Medical conditions – Research has demonstrated that people with various medical conditions, such as high blood pressure, chronic pain and illness, cancer, heart disease, asthma, and many others, benefit from MBSR. Psychological distress – MBSR has been shown to be effective in dealing with anxiety, panic, depression, fatigue, grief, and sleep disturbance to mention a few. Prevention and wellness – health enhancement and learning “how” to take care of yourself and gain a greater sense of balance.

What to expect:
MBSR incorporates techniques such as meditation, gentle yoga and mind-body exercises to help people learn how to cope with stress. It gives people greater clarity on what is happening in their lives. People have reported feeling more engaged in their work, more energised, less anxious, as well as sleep better and have fewer physical symptoms of stress, after engaging in a course. Participants in this 8-week course meet for two to two and a half hours once a week, and there is a one all-day session (on the weekend towards the end of the course).
The programme is participatory, supportive, and structured.

This programme provides you with:
. guided mindfulness meditation practices
· gentle stretching and mindful movement
· group dialogue and mindful communication exercises to enhance awareness of daily life
· daily home assignments, handouts, and reading material
· home practice material with audios and a workbook.
