Level 2 Award in Health & Safety in Health and Social Care (RQF)
This qualification is designed as an introduction to hygiene, ensuring that vulnerable people are not exposed to unnecessary risks.
The Department of Health has drawn up a code of practice acknowledging that everyone involved in care provision needs training to tackle the risk of Health Care Acquired Infection (HCAI).
Who is it for?
This course is for employees who have already received basic health & safety training and would benefit from additional focused training in hygiene and controls. This would include carers and others who provide cleaning and support services in a broad range of contexts, such as:
- Hospitals
- Care Homes
- Patients'/Clients' own homes

Course Content:
· Introduction to Health and Safety in the care sector.
· Costs of poor practice—good practice enforcing authorities, responsibilities employer and employee.
· Regulations inc. HSWA Management regs 1999.
· Risk assessments.
·Hygiene—contamination and infection
· Legislation—duty of care and due diligence
· Hand Washing—personal hygiene and cleaning
· Personal protective equipment/clothing
Outcome:
At the end of the course successful delegates will be able to:

· Understand the importance of preventing work-related ill health.
· Understand the principles of accident prevention.
· Understand the risks associated with poor welfare.
· Understand that risk assessment is an important technique for accident and ill-health

· Understand the concepts of hygiene hazards and how the risks can be controlled.
· Understand the importance of good personal hygiene.
· Recognise the need for high standards of hygiene and the importance of cleaning.
Assessment:
Assessment is carried out by a multiple choice, 30 question examination.
